Monday Mixtape XXX

The staff of The New Yorker really know how to throw a party.  Ben Greenman put together a music playlist for the magazine’s holiday party that encompassed one song for every year dating back to 1925.  While one song per year is hardly comprehensive, it is quite a showcase for the evolution of musical style in the past 85 years – from jazz and big band all the way to Kanye.  If compiling a list like this on my own, I’d be lost up until about 1955 or so (whenever Elvis and Chuck Berry come onto the scene) and I’d probably pick very different selections for the eighties and nineties, but this is still way fun.

You can listen to the whole playlist on Youtube or Rdio.
