Serious Question for Progressives

In looking ahead to potential Republican victory in November, Megan McArdle asks for examples of policies that, though unpopular when enacted, eventually gain popular support.  Civil Rights legislation strikes me as one example, given that it spurred mass protests across the South.  But regardless of whether Health Care Reform eventually joins that list, progressives need to ask another serious question:

Even if Health Care Reform is partially responsible for widespread Democratic losses in the 2010 midterms, was it worth it?  Democrats may lose control of the House and the Senate, and life may be difficult for the next couple of years while the Tea Party wrestles for control of the Republican Party.  But with 32 million more Americans having access to health care coverage… the answer for progressives has to be yes, right?
