Monday Mixtape XVI

I’ve largely emerged from a pretty unhealthy LCD Soundsystem obsession and have started listening to new alternative rock songs again.  Here’s a taste, with some older favorites thrown in for good measure.  If you like the track, support the artist!  Right click and save as below:

Arcade Fire – Month of May

New album out in less than a month!  Sounds more like Funeral than Neon Bible.

Metric – Sick Muse

This is band I’ve come to quite late, but their 2009 album Fantasies is really good.

Wavves – King of the Beach

Funky punk?  This lo-fi outfit from California has melodic chops but the attitude of Sid Vicious.

The Arctic Monkeys – Flourescent Adolescent

Their 2009 album was mostly meh, but this track set a pretty high bar for cleverness.

The Strokes – Razor Blade

A reunion tour this summer makes this former ‘it’ band relevant again – I’ll see if they’ve still got ‘it’ live next month.

The Black Keys – Tighten Up

More pop than blues on the recent album, this is still a very musical band.

Best Coast – Crazy For You

Catchy as hell.

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros – Home

Still just a gorgeous song – and one of the few that truly sounds timeless.
