Tuesday Mixtape I (Monday Mixtape VII)

Otherwise known as the late Monday Mixtape VII.  If you like vocals that are rich with a lot of emotion, this mixtape is for you.  Click on the title to download.  Click on the link below to buy the album.

Bat for Lashes – Glass

The buildup in this track is pretty immense, and the vocals of Natasha Khan are equally lush.  Love those drums.

Florence + The Machine – Cosmic Love

Florence has a booming voice, but it can be a bit pitchy sometimes and she has a tendency to over-sing.  The sharp instrumentation and delicate harps offset this a little bit, making this a pretty effective belter.

Kate Bush – Running Up That Hill

Kate Bush is the woman Florence and Natasha Khan try to be.  One of the most haunting vocal performances ever, propelled forward by those drums.

Radiohead – House Of Cards

The prettiest Radiohead track on record.  Thom Yorke’s vocals are haunting, as if delivered by a ghost of a memory.

Joanna Newsom – Swansea

Newsom’s voice is divisive, but she fills her lyrics with a lot of emotion.  A singer-songwriter for the hipster generation.

The Antlers – Kettering

Frontman Peter Silberman wrote the album Hospice about the experience of meeting a patient in the Sloan Kettering Cancer Ward, falling in love with her, caring for her, and ultimately watching her die.  Listen to this song knowing that.
