Broken Bells

The debut release from Broken Bells is due out in just a few short weeks, and the slow unveiling of work produced by the collaboration between The Shins frontman James Mercer and Danger Mouse (of Gorillaz and Gnarls Barkley fame) is now underway.  Two advance singles have been released on iTunes (and the music blogs) and have piqued a lot of interest.  Yesterday, Mercer and the Mouse performed for the first time in front of a real live audience, only to find that the audience already knows the music.

From FoundTrack:

James Mercer seemed befuddled when hearing the crowd sing lyrics to music that’s never been performed to the public. They played the entire self-titled effort live in sequence and then a curtain call from the insatiable fans brought the James and Brian back for an encore including a cover of Neutral Milk Hotel’s “In the Aeroplane Over the Sea” and then the rest of their full 6-piece setup for the grand finale, a cover of the 60’s hit by Tommy James & the Shondells, “Crimson and Clover”.

Lucky for us, we don’t have to wait for the album to drop to hear the whole thing either – FoundTrack was nice enough to film the entire concert and post it to Youtube.
