Winter Wonderland

– updated below –

I woke up this morning, and this was the view that met me out my bedroom window:

And yet the federal government as well as the university are both open today.  D.C. is evidently learning how to handle winter weather.  But the next real test may come Friday, as preliminary forecasts are predicting a strong chance for 12-15 more inches of snow.

Update: A few additional pictures from my journey to work this morning.

And for those with keen eyes, yes – those non-descript black SUVs moving along 19th Street are a part of a motorcade headed toward the White House.  Did President Obama take a joyride in the snow?  Can’t say I would blame him if it were so.

  1. The black tank-SUVs alone don’t indicate the presidential motorcade. You have to look for the presidential tank-limo, which I’ve only seen 2 or 3 times (and with my window on Penn Ave, I see almost every motorcade).

The snowstorm itself was one of the most picturesque I’ve seen: walking amid the giant flakes last night was therapeutic.
